Four decades of festivals has led to this…
In celebration of our 40th anniversary, arriving September 24 to October 3, 2026, we’ve elected to share some of our favourite films as we hurtle down the Road to 40!

On the fourth Thursday of each month from May to August, join us at Metro Cinema and Landmark Cinemas 9 City Centre as we share a film from each decade of our festival’s life!

We’ll reveal each film one month in advance at each preceding screening, so make sure you’re in the theatre for the first scoop!

Tickets are $15 each, or go for all four screenings with our $40 Road Pass!

BYE BYE BLUES

Our inaugural screening is of Anne Wheeler's made-in-Alberta classic BYE BYE BLUES! Featuring incredible musical performances, and a standout turn from Canadian icon Rebecca Jenkins, this felt like the perfect way to open our series! Join us at Metro Cinema on Thursday, May 28 at 6:30pm. We'll be joined in-person for a Q&A post-screening with director Anne Wheeler, so make sure you get the chance to hear from this celebrated Canadian filmmaker!

The 40th Edmonton International Film Festival (EIFF)

The Edmonton International Film Festival Society’s (EIFFS) mission is to present a film festival in theatres to celebrate diverse cinema for audiences. To achieve this, we showcase high-quality cinema from around the world, allowing filmmakers to interact in a forum that creates and fosters community while placing EIFF on the global film festival map.

We present films produced within 20 months of each festival.  These films are curated from submissions and solicited from distributors.  The festival also presents a generous dose of filmmaker chats, Q&As, gala screenings, a local filmmaker spotlight, ‘buzzy’ films that are travelling the festival circuit, shorts with lunch, and more. Films are selected on the basis of story, quality and originality. All films must be Edmonton premieres.
